Method for processing wet refuse for the purpose of fermenting the organic components of the latter together with sewage sludge and apparatus for mechanically separating organic and inorganic refuse portions

In order to process wet refuse for the purpose of fermenting the organic components of the latter together with sewage sludge, the wet refuse is separated into three fractions of different grain size immediately after delivery and the fraction of medium grain size is manually and mechanically separated from inorganic portions. The organic portions of this fraction are shredded and fed to a common temporary store as is the fraction of finest grain size. Shortly prior to charging of the fermenting container, a quantity is removed from this temporary store, pulped to a mash-like consistency in a ball mill and then, mixed with sewage sludge, fed to the fermenting vessel. The mechanical separation of organic from inorganic refuse portions takes place with the aid of a rotating spiked roller which impales the organic portions whilst the inorganic portions fall through the spikes or are repelled by the latter. The impaled organic portions are combed off from the spikes by a comb and fed to a temporary store.
