The invention relates to a process for the production of finely divided or fibrous precursors of activated carbon preproducts which contain pitch-like bitumenous substances and substances containing nitrogen or containing nitrogen and heavy metals in an isotropic molecular-dispersed distribution, by converting the substances into the dispersed state under the action of a supercritical solvent phase and giving the liquid solution obtained a rapid expansion and cooling with simultaneous extraction of the solvent constituents contained therein.
