In the case of a piece of display furniture, it is necessary to be able to move a front pane between a shut position covering the interior of the piece of furniture and an open position angled away therefrom. So that this can be carried out conveniently and reliably, it is proposed to use a linkage in the form of a four-bar linkage, which incorporates the front pane into the mechanism as a so-called oscillating crank. The mechanism then also comprises a crank and a coupling rod which connects the crank to the front pane via articulation points. An energy storage device having a fixed pivot bearing in the furniture frame simultaneously acts on the crank. As a result, for the torque brought about by the front pane there is generated in each case a counter-torque which is exerted via the energy storage device and the crank. It is thus possible largely to compensate for the weight of the front pane via the mechanism and to make the front pane smooth-running.
