The invention relates to an economical method for the reprocessing of spent hydraulic fluids and brake fluids based on glycols, glycol ethers and boric acid esters thereof. The method consists of a plurality of individual steps which comprise extractions, distillations, hydrolyses and re-esterifications. The individual steps are applied in a technologically logical order, under some circumstances also with omission of one or more steps. Depending on the treatment route, different qualities corresponding to MVSS 116DOT3 and DOT4 are obtained. If required, individual components of the mixture can also be produced.
