The cam profile is often produced by milling with a bevelled face mill (6) having the axis (7) inclined by the amount of the bevel angle. It can be shown that the cam surface deviates from parallelism with the cam axis (4). Greater accuracy can be achieved by providing a further controlled feed axis in the direction normal to the plane of the cam axis (4) and the cutter axis (7).
