The cam profile is often produced by milling with a bevelled face mill (6) having the axis (7) inclined by the amount of the bevel angle. Two-controlled feed motions, one rotational about the cam axis (4) and the other normal to the cam axis in the direction (11) are applied to produce the cam profile. It can be shown that the cam surface deviates from parallelism with the cam axis (4). Greater accuracy can be achieved by providing a further controlled feed axis in the direction normal to the plane of the cam axis (4) and the cutter axis (7). USE/ADVANTAGE - Mfr. of LC engine and other machinery. Cams with a wider face can be accurately produced.
