The method is for sinking a mine shaft. It consists of drilling a hole with an oversize bore of the required width and height for the foundation. A water-pressure sealed sectionalised shaft lining and a support cylinder to resist lateral pressure from the rock are then installed. The oversize bore is filled with concrete up to and including the void around the bottom of the base lining section (7). The underside of the foundation (15) is on an inclined angle with the rock face, the same angle as the base (18) of the bottom lining section (7), and between that and the top of the foundation (19) is a slide bearing (20). USE/ADVANTAGE - Sinking and lining new shaft for mine. A secure foundation is obtained both in stable and unstable rock.
