New crosslinked polymers prepd. - by reaction of tri:hydroxy-tri:phenylene cpd. with difunctional deriv. of benzene, bi:phenyl, di:phenyl ether, sulphide or ketone, etc.
Polymeric substance (I) contains units of formula (II), and is obtd. by reaction of the corresp. trihydroxy-triphenylene cpd. (III) ( = (II) with -X-replaced by OH) with a disubstd. aromatic cpd., namely a disubstd. benzene, biphenyl, alkylene-bisphenyl, oxybiphenyl, diphenyl-sulphide, diphenyl-sulphoxide, diphenyl-sulphone or benzophenone cpd. (opt. with other substits.) (IV). In (II) R = divalent residue, i.e. -SO-, -O-. -SO2-, -SO2NH-. -S-, -SO-, -S-X-S-, -S-X-O- or -O-X-O; and X = divalent residue of aromatic ring or ring system. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are new crosslinked polymers which are useful, e.g. for prodn. of high temp. resistant coatings; electrically-conducting polymers can be obtd. by doping (I), e.g. with heavy metal ions, and are useful, e.g. in electrodes, screening materials, sensors and heating systems, or as filler components.
