In the context of electrical power supply utilities, monomode optical fibres integrated in overhead lines (land cables) and power cables are used. These optical fibres can also be used for monitoring electricity power supply utility networks, power stations, dams, etc., and also for traffic and industrial projects. A digital beam PCM video/audio transmission can transmit video/audio signals over a realistic amplifier-free extent of at least 50 km of monomode optical fibres.
