The process relates to a process for the complete wrapping of piece goods by means of stretch foils, especially of stacked piece goods, such as, for example, and in particular, stacks of piece goods which are formed by means of a palletising device and which consist of a plurality of layers of piece goods arranged one above the other, a tubular foil portion, the circumference of which is smaller than the circumference of the piece goods to be wrapped, being drawn off from a (tubular) foil portion and being opened at its free end by spreading; if appropriate, the side walls of the tubular foil portion being laid by gathering in folds extending essentially concentrically relative to the vertical mid-axis of the piece goods to be wrapped; the tubular foil portion being cut off by welding at its end facing the foil stock and the foil cover thus formed being separated from the foil stock; the foil cover being stretched transversely in a horizontal transverse direction; and the transversely stretched foil cover being drawn over the piece goods to be wrapped, under the longitudinal tension which smooths the foil material and which draws it over the piece goods, the foil cover, before being drawn over, being additionally stretched longitudinally, at least in the region of the cover side walls, in a vertical longitudinal direction by the amount of at least 5% of its initial vertical length in the transversely stretched state (Figure 3).
