Delamination of laminated structures (A) whose individual layers are adhesively bonded together can be achieved by immersion in an incompressible liquid, typically water or caustic soda soln. at 60-95 deg C then subjecting it to ultrasonic sound waves at 15000-50000 Hz. USE/ADVANTAGE - (A) is necessary in eg the mfr of cartons where male and female punching tools are used. The female is formed of a steel plate to which an upper layer is laminated. The latter is subjected to high stresses by the male punch. When the upper layer of plastic, cardboard or similar is worn, recovery of the expensive steel plate is necessary for reuse. Changes in tool design also require removal of the upper layer. Easier removal of the upper layer is achieved without mechanical aid, thereby avoiding damage.
