A 'laptop' personal computer has a base unit (3) that contains the processing circuitry, memory and a keyboard for access. At the rear of the base is a support and connector unit (39) for coupling the unit to a display panel (15). The base connector is in the form of a socket (39) with contacts in a centre block (27). The converter is mounted on a spring hinge and folds into a recess (9). The display unit has a plug (17) that fits into the socket and has mechanical latch pins (33) that locate in holes (31) when an interlock arm (35) is actuated. Release of the interlock allows the panel to be removed.
