A method for the mfr. of a gas adsorption element, whereby: (1) thin paper consisting of inorganic fibres are laminated in order to obtain a matrix of a gas adsorption element having a plurality of narrow passages extending to opposite surfaces, (2) the matrix is satd. with a watery soln. of water-glass in which charcoal in the form of powder or of short fibres is suspended, (3) the satd. matrix is dried, (4) producing a water-insol. metal silicate-hydrogel by means of a reaction between the water-glass and the metal salt, e.g., Al salt, Mg salt, etc., (5) the satd. matrix is washed and (6) the washed matrix is dried in order to obtain the gas adsorption element in which charcoal and/or metal silicate-aerogel is bonded to the matrix. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method can be used to produce gas adsorbing elements. The gas adsorption element to which alumina has been added has an exceptionally high adsorption efficiency and removes inorganic gases with a comparable large polarity.
