The tubular lamp (51) is associated with a reflector (54) having areas of reduced reflectivity (46) at intervals corresp. to the positions of the light-emitting sections along the tube. A part (5a) of the reflector (5A) is curved to a semicircular or parabolic profile leading into a substantially plane part (5b) which separates it from a lens sharply curved opposite part (5c). A slit (23) is incorporated at or near the junction of the plane and the slightly curved parts (5b,5c). The reflectivity of the poorly reflecting areas (46) is determined in accordance with the deg. of nonuniformity of distribution of brightness. ADVANTAGE - Distribution of light over surface of original document can be made as uniform as possible with source varying in brightness along its length.
