Moulded prods. (I) consist of a matrix of foamed glass granules and/or chips (II) and thermosetting binder(s) (III); the wt. ratio (II); cured (III) = (9:1)-(1:1), (III) has functional NCO gps. and functional OH gps., and the functional OH gps, of the silicates in (II) form covalent bonds with the NCO gps. (I) are produced by (a) mixing (II) with (III) and (b) pressing the mixt. in a mould and curing it at below 120 deg.C. More specifically (III) is a 2-component PU-based adhesive; (II) have particles size 0.3-30 mm in the long axis; (I) are claimed for sound-proofing applications, in which the particle size of (II) decreases with increasing thickness of (I) and the density of (III) increases as the thickness increases; (I) is built up in at least 3 layers; (III) is a PU foam with gas inclusions; mixt. of (II) and (III) is moulded at 10 N/cm2 and room temp.; pref., (II) is sprayed with low-viscosity 2-component PU-adhesive. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are useful esp. as sound-proofing elements. The method of prodn. is simpler and less energy-consuming than for prior-art prods. obtd. by heat-curing glass-epoxy resin mixts. (120-180deg C) or by the "wet process" (600-900degC.).
