Filling level meter and monitor for incombustible liquids (I), which are dangerous to water, in vessels has an extended probe tube, which can be inserted in the vessel and had a liquid-tight seal with this. It contains magnetically operated switch element(s), forming pt. of an electrical measuring or monitoring circuit, and float(s) contg. a permanently magnetised switch magnet, which can be pushed onto or near the probe tube. This operates the adjacent switch element placed in the upright tube in the intended float position and hence triggers an electric display and/or switch impulse. The novelty is that the probe tube (32) and the float (44, 38) contg. the switch magnet(s) (54) and other element (34, 36, 40, 42, 46, 48) of the device immersed in (I) are made from or coated with HDPE, polypropylene (PP) or U-PVC. USE/ADVANTAGE - These plastics are suitable and approved for use with (I). (I) include numerous inorganic acids, bases and salts, fertiliser salts, liquid fertiliser, chlorine water, stabilised H2O2, certain organic acids and salts, ethylene glycol, HCHO, photographic chemicals, urea, synthetic resin dispersions, sea water, vegetable oils, starch, casein and fatty acids.
