Products comprising an inert inorganic support which does not absorb water and is impregnated with a permanganate (I), as in the Parent Patent are used to reduce the ethylene content in continues in which fruit, flowers and vegetables are stored. The parent was restricted to their use in string of fruit. (I) is pref. potassium-, sodium-, magnesium-, calcium-, barium- or lithium permanganate. A hydroscopic agent is pref. added to the product. This is pref. a chloride, nitrate, carbonate, or sulphate of Ca, Mg, Na or K; calcium or magnesium hydride or a polyphosphate, or their mixts.
