This coupling device essentially comprises a shaft (1) which can be engaged into a piece (6) in the form of a stirrup, the arms (9, 10) of which can be clamped against the shaft (1) with the aid of a bolt (14) comprising a threaded element (15) forming a screw, integrally connected to one of the arms of the stirrup, and an element (16) forming a nut, integrally connected to the other arm of the stirrup. It is characterised in that the threaded element (15) interacts with a collar (17) screwed onto this element and locked positively onto the arm which carries the threaded element in order thus to bring it into the stand-by position before engagement of the shaft in the stirrup by means of a robot which then unlocks the threaded element by pushing it and then screws it onto the nut.
