Casting an arch culvert section having a generally plane base and an upper, arcuate, portion of at least two different radii of curvature

The culvert section is cast by pouring concrete into culvert section a mould assembly, located within a cradle (26), and comprising a shell mould member and a core of the required arcuate shape, which are orientated with their concave curvature which defines the arcuate portion directed upwardly, and which are covered by a base mould member. After pouring concrete in the mould space, and replacing the base mould member by a pallet (30), the mould and green concrete are inserted whilst retained in the cradle (26). After removing the mould shell and core the concrete is allowed to cure, whilst the arcuate wall portion is preferably supported by supports (34). The arcuate portion may comprise an upper part of smaller radius, between a lower symmetrical pair of parts of smaller equal radius, or alternatively may comprise intermediate parts of smaller radius between an upper part of longer radius, and lower parts of even larger radius.
