POLYMER BLEND HYDROGEL WITH HIGH WATER CONTENT AND ITS PREPARATION

PURPOSE:To obtain a rubbery polymer blend hydrogen with high water content and high light and oxygen permeability, and toughness by maintaining an aqueous highly concentrated mixed solution of polyvinyl alcohol having a specified repeating unit, 500-4000 polymerization degree, and at least 90% of saponification and another water-soluble polymer under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:A high concentrated mixed aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol having a specified repeating unit given by formula I, polymerization degree of 500-4000, and at least 90% of saponification and another water-soluble polymer (e.g. polyethylene glycol, etc.) is kept in steam at 1.2-5.0 atmospheric pressure and 105-150 deg.C to give an aimed polymer blend hydrogel with a high water content. The weight ratio of the polyvinyl alcohol and the water-soluble polymer is preferably (85:15)-(60:40). At the time of mixing these two components, water may be added and the highly concentration mixed aqueous solution is optionally heated and pressured afterwards.
