PURPOSE: To obtain a pearly flame-resistant expandable styrene polymer by polymerizing styrene (co)monomers in the presence of hexabromocyclododecane particles provided with a firm coating in an aqueous suspension and adding a hydrocarbon blowing agent to the obtained polymer. ;CONSTITUTION: A styrene monomer and optionally other comonomers are polymerized in the presence of 0.4-6 wt.% hexabromocyclododecane particles having a particle size of about 1 to 50 μm in an aqueous medium. The particles are provided with a film being soluble in water and styrene and having a thickness of 1/10 to 1/100 of the particle diameter. Before or during the polymerization an effective amount of common, additives are added to the system to obtain the purpose polymer. The obtained foam has a density of about 0.01-0.1 g/cm³. This foam is used for packings, core materials for automobile dampers, automobile interior furnishing materials, cushioning materials, heat insulation materials, sound-proofing materials, etc.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
