PURPOSE:To stably and efficiently control the rotating speed zone of a wide range by validating control by current pattern control means in the low speed rotating zone of a rotor, and validating control by angle-of-lead control means in the high speed rotating zone of the rotor. CONSTITUTION:Control selecting means E selects control based on the actual rotating speed or target rotating speed of the rotor of a variable reluctance motor SR. Current pattern control means D controls in a low speed rotating one. Data of current pattern is read from the means D in response to a rotating position signal given from rotating position detecting means B. A current command value of an exciting current is applied to exciting means A based on the data. The means A is so operated that the conducting period of the exciting current becomes a leading phase to the exciting period of each exciting winding by angle-of-lead control means C in the high speed rotating zone. Thus, it can be stably and efficiently controlled.
