POLY(PHENYLACETYLENE) DERIVATIVE AND ITS PREPARATION

PURPOSE:To prepare a poly(phenylacetylene) deriv. stable at room temp. and magnetized by oxidizing the OH groups of a poly(phenylacetylene) deriv. thereby incorporating a specific repeating unit into it. CONSTITUTION:Poly(p-ethynylbromobenzene) of formula I is reacted with butyllithium in an org. solvent to give a lithium compd. of formula II. The lithium compd. is reacted with 2-methyl-2-nitrosopropane in an org. solvent to give a poly(phenylacetylene) deriv. having a repeating unit of formula III. The resulting poly(phenylacetylene) deriv. is then reacted with an oxidizing agent (e.g. metaperiodic acid) to thereby oxidize the OH group of the deriv., and thus a poly(phenylacetylene) deriv. having a repeating unit of formula IV is prepd.
