PURPOSE:To carry on peripheral operation in a manhole, etc., safely by securely testing the airtightness of tube members which form the duct while performing coupling operation between the tube members by the airtightness tester which tests the airtightness of the joint part between the tube members directly. CONSTITUTION:The airtightness tester 10 is equipped with a clamping board body 12 which covers the whole joint part between the tube members, an air pressure driving device 16 which is linked with the clamping board body 12 by a hose 14, and a meter 18 which is provided on the clamping board body 12 and displays the pressure of the internal air. The clamping board body 12 is equipped with a 1st clamping board 20 and a 2nd clamping board 22 consisting of a couple of upper and lower split molds. Then the clamping board body 12 is assembled by clamping the joint part between the 1st and 2nd clamping boards 20 and 22 and the internal space is held airtight. Further, the air pressure driving device 16 decreases or increases the pressure in the clamping board body 12 to confirm whether or not there is a leak in the joint part while confirming the pressure value on the meter 18. Consequently, the airtightness of the joint part of the underground buried duct can easily be measured and the duct is buried again immediately, so secure and efficient construction becomes possible.
