PURPOSE:To easily approximate even a target with a complicated configuration to a polyhedron by providing polyhedron approximating means for approximating the target to the polyhedron and scatter sectional area calculating means for obtaining a scatter sectional area from the sum of diffracted waves and calculating the scatter sectional area of the target. CONSTITUTION:Even a target with a complicated configuration is approximated to a polyhedron without a torsion with a necessary and sufficient accuracy by forming a plurality of triangles on every surface of the target divided into individuals by virtual lines. Polyhedron approximating means 6 approximate the target to the polyhedron. Side searching means 7 searches all the sides of the polyhedron which can be seen from an incident direction. Equivalent wave source calculating means 9 temporarily install equivalent linear electromagnetic current sources with the direction of a unit vector obtained by unit vector calculating means 8 on all the sides. Diffracted wave calculating means 10 obtain radiation fields from the equivalent linear electromagnetic current sources. Scatter sectional area calculating means 11 calculate the sum of the radiation fields to calculate a scatter sectional area. Thus, calculations are accurately performed in a short calculating time without the divergence of the scatter sectional area in a given observing direction.
