PURPOSE:To prepare a red colorant having no carcinogenicity by extracting petals. styles, and pollen of a hibiscus and adding an org. acid to the extract. CONSTITUTION:Water 5 is added to the petals 2, styles 3, and pollen 4 of a red flower 1 of a hibiscus and the mixture is heated to cause water 5 to boil to thereby extract a colorant with water 5 to give a blueish violet liq. 6. The liq. 6 is mixed with an aq. soln. 7 of an org. acid (e.g. citric acid) to give a colorant, a red liq. 8.
