PURPOSE:To manufacture a novel electrical contact material excellent in electrical contact properties by subjecting an Ag-Sn-Cd molten alloy contg. specified amounts of Sn and Cd to internal oxidation in the state of a solid phase in the atmosphere of specified oxygen atmospheric pressure. CONSTITUTION:A molten alloy obtd. by adding, by weight, 5 to 12% Sn and 0.5 to 5% Cd and, if required, 0.001 to 1% of one or more kinds among Fe group elements (Fe, Co and Ni) to Ag is heated to the temp. range of 750 to 500 deg.C in the state of a solid phase where a liquid phase is not included at all in the atmosphere of 10 to 200 atm oxygen atmospheric pressure and is subjected to internal oxidation. In this way, the electrical contact material constituted of the Ag-Sn-Cd alloy particularly excellent in the stability of contact resistance and in which metallic oxides are ultrafinely and uniformly dispersed can be obtd.
