PURPOSE: To maintain the flame pattern required by a specific rotary kiln and, at the same time, to recycle the dust produced from the kiln, by adding the dust and oxygen at appropriate rates while proper combustion is maintained in the kiln. CONSTITUTION: Oxygen is injected into a rotary kiln to obtain a desirable flame pattern, and the injection is varied depending upon a dust injecting device and the type of the kiln, so as to make the oxygen react to the effect of recycled dust on the flame pattern. For a cement rotary kiln to which dust is recycled through or above a burner pipe, for example, the ignition point of the fuel is delayed and flames are cooled at a fuel/dust intermediate point. In order to make the oxygen react to theses effects, an oxygen thickening process is provided. When this method is used, the rotary kiln can be operated to increase the dust returned to the process and, accordingly, the dust treating cost can be minimized while the production is increased. This is achieved by using the oxygen thickening process for controlling the flame pattern and burning the excessive fuel required for converting the added dust into the final product.
