GENERALIZED PARTIAL RESPONSE CHANNEL SIGNALIZATION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: To obtain code gain for the optional number of bits/codes by moderate decoding complexity and to make it possible to prepare a trellis code for a low input or output signal by adopting trellis codes for a generalized partial response system. CONSTITUTION: A digital signal xk string and a digital signal yk string (k=1, 2,...) are formed so that either one or both of the strings become supported modulation code strings, and relation between the strings is expressed by the equation shown. The system is provided with an encoder for selecting J signals yk , yk+1 to yk+y-1 (j1) so as to be congruent with a string of J specified remainder elements C mod M (M is an integer), and J codes are selected from one of J-dimensional conformation. The selection is executed based on a preceding xk ' (k'k), positive and negative points are included in a coordinate total and the encoder is constituted so that the signal xk has a finite variable sk .
