PURPOSE:To avoid the measuring error caused by the solidification of a size solution by measuring the dripping time of the size solution until the total wt. reaches a set value after a viscosity cup is drawn up above the surface of the size solution. CONSTITUTION:The viscosity cup 4 arranged so as to face to the size solution 2 received in a size tank 1 from above is connected to the plunger 7a of a fluid pressure cylinder 7 by a cord 6 and immersed in the size solution at a flaling position by the advance of the plunger 7a. The cylinder 7 is operated by the signal from a controller 13 and the cup 4 is raised to be taken out of the size solution to be placed at a measuring position. The dripping of the size solution begins from this time and a time measuring device 18 is set to start measurement. A load cell 14 detects the total wt. of the cup 4 changing with the dripping of the size solution and the output thereof is amplified by an amplifier 15 to be inputted to a comparator 16. When the input value from the load cell 14 becomes equal to the set value from a setting device 17, the time measuring device 18 is reset by the signal from the comparator 16. The measured time is displayed on an output device 19 and the viscosity of the size solution can be known from said measured time.
