PRODUCTION OF SINTERED CERAMIC BODY HAVING DENSE CERAMIC FILM

PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the sintered body with a new function imparted thereto by applying the precursor of a functional ceramic film to the required part on the surface of a porous ceramics body and then forming a gas impermeable film on the whole surface and performing hot isotropic pressurizing treatment and thereafter removing the gas impermeable film. CONSTITUTION:A precursor (e.g. TiN powder) capable of being converted into a ceramic film having a function by heating is applied to the part to be imparted with the new function on the surface of a porous ceramic body (e.g. porous silicon nitride body). Then a precursor (e.g. silica glass powder) capable of being converted into a gas impermeable film by heating is applied to the whole surface of this porous body and heated to form the gas impermeable film. Then hot isotropic pressurizing treatment is performed to this porous body and thereafter the gas impermeable film is removed. Thereby a sintered ceramic body is obtained which is provided with a dense ceramic film having the function such as heat resistance, oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance and abrasion resistance.
