PURPOSE:To increase a frequency split number by holding both a grid displaying (n) pieces of frequency band and 2m pieces of segment in accordance with respective grids and arranging two pieces of segment with (m) pieces at a time in two rows for the respective grids. CONSTITUTION:In the case of driving a fluorescent character display tube, when a grid G1 is turned on, only a segment S1 is turned on in the segments S1-Sm and S'1-S'3 are turned on in the segments S'1-S'm. When a grid G2 is turned on, S1 and S2 are turned on in the segments S1-Sm and S'1 is turned on in the segments S'1-S'm. When a grid Gn is turned on, S1-S3 are turned on in the segments S1-Sm and S'1, S'2 are turned on in the segments S'1-S'm. This timing is repeated at a period T and thereby two bars of S1 and S'1-S'3 are lighted in the grid G1. Two bars of S1, S2 and S'1 are lighted in the grid G2. Two bars of S1-S3 and S'1, S'2 are lighted in the grid Gn. In such a way, a frequency split number can be increased.
