PURPOSE:To extract only a part that a student plays with confidence from an input tone series by comparing tone series patterns of converted tone series data and tone series data corresponding to a reference tone series with each other as to specific features. CONSTITUTION:Song information, etc., is converted into tone series data having a dimension of code length, the toner series patterns of the tone series data and tone series data corresponding to the reference tone series are compared with each other as to the specific features, and a phrase which is most similar to the reference tone series is extracted from the input tone series according to the comparison result. Namely, a similar pitch tone series extracting circuit 7 while shifting reference pitch tone series data PDline(ref) and input pitch tone series data PDline(full) in time base reference point compares tone series parts of the same length with the reference tone series after conversion into a tone series pattern of elements connected in time series in the same time zone, thereby extracting tone series parts according to similarity to the reference pitch tone series.
