PURPOSE: To perform the processing adapted to interactive synthesis or document management in accordance with a model by providing a screen, an input means for input of document information and instructions, and a means which is connected to the screen and the input means and uses the screen to refer to document information and instructions. CONSTITUTION: A mouse 4 is provided with at least two buttons with which instructions are given to a system. An operator can select elements displayed on the screen with the first push button MS by a cursor. The second push button MM is a menu button. The system on the screen indicates system instructions and selection menus by the cursor position, and the operator can move the mouse/cursor to indicate one of them. Generally, a menu consists of numbers of areas each of which includes instructions. When the cursor reaches an area, the color is changed to indicate that the area is selected. When the button MM is released, the system executes an indicated command, and the menu is deleted from the screen.
