PURPOSE: To restrain a coke puffing by mixing high sulfur coke particles with alkali metal compound-containing Na or K without the presence of binder and reacting at a specific temp. ;CONSTITUTION: The high sulfur oil coke particles 24 having ≥0.7 wt.% sulfur content are supplied into a kiln 10 through a horizontal conveyor 36, chute 28 and inlet end part 10 and heated with combustion gas at ≥750°C flowed in the counter current to the particles 24 and after burning and removing the volatile matter, the particles are supplied into a hot zone 44 at the inlet front part 38 in a cylindrical rotary cooling device 36 from the outlet end part 14 through a chamber 20, clinker box 22 and refractory block 30. Then, the alkali metal compound powder 48 containing Na or K is supplied at 0.2-2.5 wt.% from a funnel 50 and reacted at the temp. or higher starting to the reaction with C and the temp. or lower starting to the puffing of the oil coke without the presence of the above compound, and after forming the Na or K containing precipitation in the particles 24, the particles are introduced to a cooling section 53 through a fire-proof ring 46 and after cooling by spraying the water from nozzles 56, the particles are discharged onto a conveyor 58 through a chamber 42.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
