PURPOSE:To measure a trace amt. of oxygen consumption without being affected by temp. by disposing a pressure sensor between a sample side loop and a reference side loop and detecting the pressure difference between the two loops after reaction by the pressure sensor. CONSTITUTION:A closed loop connecting the sample side loop A and the reference side loop B is formed at the time of measurement. The dissolved oxygen quantity in the sample in the loop A is measured by the pressure sensor 6. The loop A consists of an air pump 7, a reactor 26a, a cooler 13a, and a CO2 removing column 11a. The loop B is similarly formed by commonly using the pump 7. A sample supply pump 9 supplies the sample and reference water (reference water which does not generate metabolism) to the reactors 16a, 16b respectively. The reactor 16 decomposes the substrate in the sample by the metabolic effect. The pump 7 circulates the gases in the loops A, B. The coolers 13a, 13b dehumidify the circulating gases delivered from gas outlets 14a, 14b. The columns 11a, 11b absorb the CO2 generated by the metabolic effect.
