ADSORBENT AND ADSORBING DEVICE FOR BILIRUBIN

PURPOSE:To selectively and efficiently adsorb and separate bilirubin by immobilizing org. synthetics having affinity to the bilirubin on the surface of a porous body consisting of a copolymer of divinyl benzene, glycidyl methacrylate and hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate and bringing this porous body into contact with blood or blood plasma. CONSTITUTION:A carrier for immobilizing the org. synthetics having the affinity to the bilirubin is the porous body obtd. by the suspension polymn. effected in the presence of a pore opening agent and a polymn. initiator. The respective component ratios of the divinyl benzene, glycidyl methacrylate and hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate are specified to 35 to 90:5 to 15:50 by weight. The org. synthetics having the affinity to the bilirubin immobilized on the surface of the porous body are preferably compds. of 1X102 to 1X106 dalton mol.wt., more particularly compds. having =12 cation groups per molecule, terpenoid and anion surfactants. The immobilization of the org. synthetics having the affinity to the bilirubin is executed by the covalent bonding of the org. synthetics effected by the ring opening reaction of the epoxy active groups on the surface of the porous body.
