PURPOSE:To obtain the heating cylinder of a molding machine having radiation and heat transfer functions by arranging a band heater to the outer circumferential face of the heating cylinder main body made of steel and providing a ceramics layer for radiating far infrared rays to the inner circumferential face of the heating cylinder and fitting a reinforcing liner to the inner circumferential face of the ceramics layer. CONSTITUTION:In a heating cylinder M, a ceramics layer made of SiO2 for radiating far infrared rays is fitted to the heating cylinder main body 1 made of chrome-molybdenum steel. Furthermore a reinforcing liner 3 is fitted to the inner circumferential face of the ceramics layer 2. The SiO2 ceramics layer 2 is heated by heat transfer from a band heater 4 fitted to the outer circumferential face of the cylinder main body 1 and far infrared rays are irradiated. Therein the wavelength absorption characteristics of plasticized substance being an organic substance are allowed to coincide with the wavelength of far infrared rays and the wavelength of far infrared rays is 3 - 400 mum. For example, absorption of infrared rays of vinyl chloride and PP is effective in a range within 3 - 25 mum. Therefore since the plasticized substance 5 in the inner circumferential face of the heating cylinder M absorbs radiation heat of the far infrared rays radiated from the SiO2-based ceramics layer 2, the surface and the inside of the plasticized substance can be simultaneously heated.
