OPERATION OF POWER GENERATING SYSTEM IN MOLTEN CARBONATE FUEL CELL

PURPOSE:To retard the corrosion of cell constituting members and to lengthen the life of a cell by storing the cell at high temperature with an anode kept in inert gas atmosphere and a cathode kept in an oxidizing gas atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A fuel cell 1 is stored at high temperature with an anode 1b kept in an inert gas atmosphere such as nitrogen gas atmosphere and a cathode 1a kept in an oxidizing gas atmosphere. When cathode constituting members are in a no-load power generating state in an oxidizing atmosphere with voltage applied, their corrosion is retarded. ln order to retard the corrosion of anode constituting members, they are in a no-load power generating state in an inert atmosphere with no voltage applied. The corrosion of cell constituting members are retarded with performance required to a power generating plant retained.
