PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer liquid compound and composition consisting of recurring units expressed by a specific composition formula, capable of optionally obtaining liquid crystal temperature range and readily controlling liquid crystal temperature range and suitable for display, memory, optical component, etc. CONSTITUTION:The polymer liquid crystal compound consisting of recurring units expressed by formula I [X is formula II, formula III, etc.; Y is flexible spacer group of formula IV (n1 is 118), etc.; Z is mesogen group expressed by formula V (m1 is 1-3) or the like; n is 1-12; R1 is 1-18C straight-chain or branched alkyl] and composition containing the above-mentioned compound or copolymer liquid crystal compound containing one or more kind of recurring units expressed by formula I at an amount of =10mol%, preferably =30mol% in main chain and polymer liquid composition containing the above-mentioned compound. The ratio of polymer liquid crystal compound contained in liquid crystal composition is preferably =30wt.%, especially preferably 50-99wt.%.
