PURPOSE: To obtain a product having a urea bond formed by a reaction of an isocyanate with an amine by reacting a di-secondary amine with a diisocyanate. ;CONSTITUTION: An N,N'-diisopropyl polyoxyalkylene di-secondary amine of the formula (wherein R1 is H or methyl; Pr1 is isopropyl; and x is 2-6) is reacted with a diisocyanate of a divalent hydrocarbyl group (with the exception of those wherein an isocyanate group is directly bonded to an aromatic ring) in a polar solvent such as a ketone, isopropanol and the like at 0-100°C to obtain a product having a terminal secondary amino group and an internal urea bond. The products, isocyanate prepolymers, are highly viscous liquids and useful especially in the field of polyurethanes and the secondary amines have excellent colors and viscosity characteristics and are useful in epoxy coatings and polyurea applications.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1991,JPO
