PURPOSE:To manufacture the damping alloy having high hardness and high damping capacity and having good cold workability by subjecting an alloy having specified compsn. constituted of C, Ni, Cu, Co, Al, Ti, Cr, Mo, Si, O, N and Fe to specified heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:An alloy constituted of, by weight, 0.002 to 0.1% C, 0.5 to 8.0% of one or more kinds among =7.0% Ni, =5.0% Cu and =4.0% Co, 0.3 to 4.0% of one or both of =4.0% Al and Ti, 5.0 to 25.0% Cr, 0.1 to 12.0% of one or both of =10.0% Mo and =3.0% Si, 0.0005 to 0.03% O and 0.0002 to 0.03% N, furthermore contg., at need, prescribed amounts of Mn, W, V, Nb, Ta, Zr, Hf, B, etc., and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is heated to 800 to 1200 deg.C for 5 to 600min, is thereafter cooled to 650 to 1200 deg.C and is furthermore cooled to =300 deg.C at 50 deg.C/hr. If required, the alloy is thereafter reheated to 350 to 650 deg.C for 5 to 1200min and is rapidly or gradually cooled. In this way, intermetallic compounds are precipitated into a ferrite phase, by which the alloy having high hardness and high damping capacity can be obtd.
