LASER OSCILLATOR/AMPLIFIER DEVICE SIMULTANEOUSLY FUNCTIONING AS COMPENSATION OF STRESS BIREFRINGENCE

PURPOSE: To compensate heat inducing birefringence in an oscillator gain medium with matched heat inducing birefringence in an amplifier, by arranging a 90 deg. rotating equipment between the oscillator gain medium and the amplifier. CONSTITUTION: A 90 deg. rotating equipment 21 is arranged along an optical path between an output coupler 13 and an amplifier 11. The component of beam of an oscillator 10 is transmitted in amplifying medium 19 via the 90 deg. rotating equipment 21, with the output coupler. The action of birefringence of gain medium of the oscillator is compensated by the matching action of the gain medium 19 of the amplifier. Matching of the heat inducing birefringence in medium 14 of the oscillator and the heat inducing birefringence in the amplifying medium 19 is achieved by selecting the gain medium 19 of the amplifier which is physically identical or similar to gain medium 14 of the oscillator, and by pumping the amplifying medium 19 at the level that birefringence in the amplifying medium 19 matching with action of birefringence in transmission component of beam of the oscillator is induced.
