PRODUCTION OF COPPER PHTHALOCYANINE BLUE PIGMENT

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled blue pigment which exhibits a vivid red color, excellent in tinting power, weather resistance, solvent resistance, etc., and has an R-type crystalline system causing no crystalline transition, by mixing a specific compd. with an alpha copper phthalocyanine and salt-milling the mixture in the presence of an attrition additive with a heavy-duty attritor. CONSTITUTION:Copper phthalocyanine is dissolved in a concn. sulfuric acid, deposited in water, filtered, washed with water and dried to obtain an alpha copper phthalocyanine having a particle diameter of 0.05-0.1mu. 100pts.wt. alpha copper phthalocyanine is mixed with 1-100pts.wt. compd. prepared from an org. isocyanate compd. (e.g.: tolylene diisocyanate) and an aliphatic amine having at least one sec. or tert. amino group. The mixture is salt-milled in the presence of an attrition additive such as common salt, sodium bicarbonate or Glauber's salt and, if necessary, 40-150pts.wt. solvent such as glycerin with a heavy-duty attritor having a great mechanical strain, such as a kneader of a Banbury mixer at 70-150 deg.C for 3-10hr to obtain the titled blue pigment.
