A hand tool for applying on a substrate a film carried on a supporting film comprises a housing which contains a feed reel and a rake-up reel for the supporting film. The two reels are placed on pintles rotatably mounted in the housing. At least one reel is associated with a rewind stop, the two pintles are interconnected by toothing with a friction clutch which acts in the direction of rotation, and the supporting film, which can be wound off the feed reel, is guided on an applicator element which projects from the housing and presses the film side of the supporting film against the substrate. The supporting film then re-enters the housing and is wound onto the take-up reel. In order to improve such a hand tool by reducing the number of components and simplifying its manufacture, the toothing (18, 19) is incorporated in the corresponding pintle (8, 9) and the friction clutch forms and integral part of the toothing (18, 19).
