The present invention relates to the dextrorotatory, optical isomer of diastereomer A of (+)-2,6-dimethyl-4- (m-nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydropyridine-3,5-dicarboxylic acid 3-(1-benzylpyrrolidin-3-yl) ester 5-methyl ester, the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof, and a process for their preparation. The process comprises reacting a levorotatory, optical isomer or a racemate of 5-methoxycarbonyl-2,6-dimethyl-4(m-nitrophenyl)-1,4-dihydro-pyridine-3-carboxylic acid or a reactive derivative thereof, with a levorotatory, optical isomer or a racemate of 1benzyl-3-hydroxy-pyrrolidine. The compound of this invention is useful as a blood vessel dilator.
