The proposed method and equipment is intended to deal with highly active effluent water such as nuclear power station floor drainage and leakage water. Effluent water from various sources is collected and passed through an adsorbent layer of high specific adsorptivity, held in a vessel, until the radioactivity of the discharge water reaches the permitted upper level. The effluent stream is then diverted to another vessel with a fresh adsorbent layer. The vessel with the spent adsorbent is permanently sealed so that it is liquid and gas tight, and removed to a permanent storage. - The filter vessel has a radiation shielding. It is provided with a discharge pipe, which is terminated at the vessel inlet. A common connection piece is provided for the external inlet and discharge pipes.
