The cellulose fibres are treated with an aqueous liquor containing a wetting agent, an optionally quaternised reaction product of polyethyleneimine with a bifunctional alkylating agent, and an anionic surfactant, and the material is dried and dyed without addition of alkali. This process can also be combined with a sizing process. The dyeings obtained are unlevel, making the textile materials suitable for making up into fashionable articles.
