The lift cage (6) is vertically movable along the guides in the drum by hydraulic or mechanical power units (11). At the upper end of the lift drum (1) is fixed at least one rotatable break plate over which a line runs, the one downwardly passing part of which is fastened to the lift cage (6), whilst its other downwardly passing part is connected to a counterweight (21). The wt. of the counterweight corresponds to a part of the wt. of the lift cage including its load. The counterweight is vertically movable in the lift drum along one of its limiting walls, and along the whole of its movement path runs in a guide (2,3) limited by means of a vertical cover from the interior of the lift drum.
