The bottom of the basin involved has an aperture through which a pipe union extends. The free end of the union forms an inlet to the water outlet from the basin. The aperture dia. is greater than the external dia. of the union, and the space between the aperture walls and the union exterior forms a circular, ring-shaped mouthpiece around the union. Through the mouthpiece is blown compressed air or carbon dioxide which in the form of bubbles collects water with it to form an upwardly directed current of water and bubbles in a tubular buffer formation. This prevents macro-algae and the solid bodies used in the basin from approaching the basin outlet, but does not impede the requisite tapping-off of water and micro-algae.
