Monitoring system for sensors on railway train - uses microcomputer to monitor pressure sensor outputs to indicate degradation of brakes over time period

The first carriage (1) of a train contains a transmission centre (3) comprising a microcomputer with memory, keyboard, printer (7) and VDU (6). The microcomputer processes data and delivers the results to the output units. Transmission terminals (4) in each carriage are interconnected by a serial data bus (5). This allows a detector such as a pressure sensor (17), in the brake cylinder (15) of an air braking system for each carriage, to be monitored by the microcomputer. The processed results may be displayed graphically or printed. The brake control system drive unit (8) with its compressor (10) and actuator (9) has its output monitored. This allows the braking system to be monitored and compared with an initial value.
